Princess Anne’s emotional and historic moment beside the Queen’s coffin

  • Published on Sep 11, 2022
  • Princess Anne made history by becoming the first royal woman to take part in the 'Vigil of the Princes' as she joined her brothers to stand guard over their mother's coffin.
The 72-year-old was dressed in her military uniform for the historic moment at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh beside her three brothers King Charles III, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Princess Anne deserves this honour more than anyone... She matched her mother's dedication even though she wasn't going to be the one inheriting her role. What a brilliant woman.

@Sallynse 2 i think the Queen changed how that works so Charlotte would be 3rd in line. They mentioned it on the commentary how she made sure it wouldn’t just be a line of Kings

    • Sallynse 2
      Sallynse 2 10 days ago

@Marc Warren actually William is now 1st in line, George 2nd, Charlotte is 3rd and Louis is 4th. The rest do not figure much after that

    • Marc Warren
Marc Warren 10 days ago +2

@Poppiska unless something drastic happens then there won’t be another queen for a while. King Charles, then Prince William will take the crown, the Prince George I believe. Charlotte is 4th in line i think

Watching the four siblings stand the “Princes” Watch surrounding the coffin of their late Sovereign was heart wrenching but at the same time inspiring. Even in deep grief for their late Monarch and mother they still do their duty with dignity and stoicism. The display of inner strength and fortitude is what makes our Monarchy truly unique. God Bless the Queen. RIP.

I recall Princess Anne as one who was not so often in the gossip circles as were her siblings.
That she went about her duties quietly is a testament to her upbringing and education as to what her role has been.
I am sure that Elizabeth is very proud and content with how Anne has conducted her affairs.
    RIP, Elizabeth Rex.

A much loved 96 year old woman passed on to the next world. Everyone gives her accolades. Yet, at recently as this year she knighted a man who is directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of murders in Iraq in exchange for black gold and military contracts for the industrial complex. She knighted a man for taking 100s of thousands of mothers and fathers from their families, as well as children… all done illegally. I’m sick of the morality pantomime

@Jeanette Reynolds Firstly, Andrew EARNED those medals for active service during the Falklands war, now the only living Royal to have actually seen active service in a war. Lastly, they didn't turn on him, he chose the wrong time and place to show great disrespect to Her Majesty's procession. 1) You don't kick a man while he's down, Andrew has just lost his mother and some people, decent people have the capacity enough to empathise with a son grieving his mother, and he's not the only one. Her Majesty's FOUR children are all in a period of mourning, imagine how they all felt hearing some loser disrespecting their mothers coffins procession. I can promise you now, anyone dare fight, squabble, heckle or start shit of any kind at my mother's funeral or in the presence of her coffin, those people will be getting some serious unexpected dental work. TIME AND A PLACE YOU FUCKING REPTILE

Having to go through all the ceremonies while your heart is breaking, knowing full well the entire world is watching your every move, has to be one of the most difficult things in the world. Anne showed the same dedication to her country and her devotion to duty her mother displayed when she stepped off the plane seventy years ago and assumed her role as Queen, all the while grieving for the beloved father she lost. The apple, in this case, has not fallen far from the tree. The Queen has reason to be proud of those she left behind.

The Royals lived always in the viewfinder of cameras; they must have become immune to this intrusion when they were young and especially when they were old enough to have roles within the Monarchy. There are human with emotions, for sure! But they have been trained to be steeled when most of us cannot hold back the tears. I wept through this entire short video. Most of us could never have met the challenge of being
heroically mature in the moment of losing our Mother, who was also Queen for 70 years.@markpkessinger

And being such a private, not a publicity seeking person...Meghan should watch and learn what is means to be a loving and respectful daughter before it is too late to learn the lesson. She is running out of time with her father.
My lovely husband who was a trained nurse when I was called by my mothers friends in Surrey, England that she needed a nursing home said ," If your mother does not want that, bring her to us and we will care for her, you and i." He is a trained emercency and trauma care nurse and also briefly was head nurse evenings of a care home in Florida until he could not bear the lack of staffing that meant patients did not get the care they deserved...not for lack of trying.
We weremwhen the call came about my mother then living in a foreign Latin American country where we had the connections for private home care from a physician and we could afford around the clock care with my husband supervising. So we brought her here. She had a lovely and happy last 6 mos of life left here with us. Each day when I opened her window shutters overlooking Volcan Agua she asked if we were in Japan and if the top of the volcano was Mt Fiji...which she had loved when she was there in the 1950s with the UBS STate Dept. I said no Mother and told her where we were, and she, not recognozing the place name, declared, " no this is heaven". And it really is: the people, the climate, the scenery and flowers which she so loved.
My husband knows what it meant to me to have those last months with my mother and what it meant to her . What woman is blessed with such a husband? And like Anne I had a very special mother deserving of anything bestowed upon her.
It is ironic that my husband is tucked in downstairs very likely on what will be his deathbed. He has stopped eating and simply cannot. He has had tests upon tests, we KNOW which system is failing. He has had every test possible. He is comfortably hydrated and properly medicated but I fear will not come back from this. It is gastrointestinal, not pulmonary, his lungs are clear. It is very difficult sitting vigil in his room watching him sleep all day. He rouses for about 10 minutes about 3 times a day but that is all and each day the time grows shorter. He is 80...his father lived to his mid 90s...I had hoped he would too...but his mother passed away from something gastrointestional her system just failed at 81.
It is SUCH a hard thing...though we know we will lose people one by one, and one day it will be our turn...tonight I am focusing on the good life we have had together...of course I so wish he would rally and be with me a few more years...
We never know how many years we have...or how manynyears those we l8ve will have.

Actually, the public ceremonies are the easy part. There are so many activities and things to be done that it distracts a person from the loss in the early days following a person's death. It's later, when all the services are over, guests go home, and you must return to your normal life (if you even know what that is anymore) -- that's when the truly hard work of grieving happens.

Yes. I highly doubt that King Charles would remove Princess Anne in a scaled down Monarchy because of her decades of devotion to the Queen and to the British people. I'm quite certain the King spoke with his mother on these issues prior to her death. Just as it was the Queen's wish that Camilla be Queen Consort instead of Princess Consort (the Queen's devoted husband was Prince Consort) to recognize Camilla's devotion to duty despite all the drama decades ago, I would be quite certain that the same would have been said about Princess Anne and that she would continue to do her duties.

I really wasn't fond of Princess Anne until years ago when I found out how much she was involved in her charities that she represents. She was the president of Save the Children since the 70's and since 2017 has been the Royal Patron. She also has been President of World Horse Welfare since 1994 and a couple of years ago she adopted a horse that nobody wanted. What really made me a fan was when Trump visited and the Queen looking for some help talking to Trump asked Anne to come over so she could introduce her and she said no I ok right here. I always thought she was stiff and not pleasant but the interview she did when she turned 70 really showed how she was in step with the world and how kind she is. I have never seen her shed a tear so we know that the death of her Mother has really reivited her and the rest of the family. At the end of Her Majesty the Queen's life she relied on Anne to be with her from Balmoral to Buckingham Palace. Seems the women are the ones mothers turn to make sure things are done as they wished. Three cheers to Princess Anne.
