This is my childhood dream come true to have a truly 3D Kirby game, and the fact that it's open world on top of that is just 💖

I guess just having seamless transitions is what constitutes open-world nowadays lol.

Not everything needs to be open-world. Open-world =/ good game

The graphics look absolutely stunning, especially for the settings near the 1:20 mark! Even the Waddle Dee Town on its own has me hyped up!
However, like always in the Kirby fashion, there’s gonna have to be a terrifying eldritch abomination as the game’s final boss. I wonder how they’re gonna pull it off for this game.

    • Lacey Lopp
      Lacey Lopp 2 days ago

@Omega Redstone I’m already under the assumption the final boss is gonna have something to do with that lion thing but I also think he’s just going to be a fake out final boss like how they did in return to dreamland and stuff

    • Omega Redstone
Omega Redstone 2 days ago +1

For everyone to know in thought, have seeing the characters and areas in 3D is true, but they only on 2D Side-Scroller in platform is also true, hence is why a hybrid name called "2.5D" happen. This also familiar to SFIV (Street fighter 4) came out to have that as well. And since Kirby new mainline adventure game is fully 3D platform, it's actually the first.
Hope this helps. (If I'm missing something, let me know 👌🏽)

    • Game Queen
Game Queen 2 days ago +1

@MrWhygodwhy Kirby Superstar is one Kirby game I'd say competed with other big console titles for its time. Game was stellar. HUGE influence on how smash brother plays, co-op platforming before Mario did it YEARS later, the way its co-op functioned would be how other platformer co-ops would implement it, and it's style of progression was very bold. Amazing classic retro game and my favorite snes title. That was the last traditional Kirby game made by Sakurai before he made the cult hit Air Ride and bounced from HAL. Kirby's Adventure on the NES also is one of the console's best games and Kirby's Dreamland on Gameboy is one of the best looking Gameboy games and sold very well. It's hard to say modern Kirby competes in such an impactful way as these amazing classics but they are still good imo. Planet Robobot in particular is a good game but yeah.. hard to say new stuff competes like old Kirby games did. Game development has also become massive and Kirby is second party, not first. Even tho I still love Kirby games and even the new ones I have to concede that much. Although tbh I wouldn't even compare Kirby and Mario. They are platformers but their designs are for such different reasons. Kirby is an entry level franchise and an action platformer with a beat em up quality, where the fun is in an avatar having many options meanwhile Mario is your standard precision platformer where level driven navigation and accuracy is the big thing. What you think is better is definitely dependant on taste too.

    • Game Queen
      Game Queen 2 days ago

@Shalimar Lake copy combos arent great only because Kirby actually has less abilities overall and his power just becomes one measly move. Now if they combine power combos with movsets NOW we're talking. That would probably be a lot to program tho.

Nice, I just can't wait for the spring release for sure!! It reminds me so much of a modern 2D Kirby game where Kirby has his sword and also has other team members with him as a co-op that's pretty dope and cool I can't wait for this game to come out I'm so excited! I just hope this game will be compatible with amiibo too we'll just have to wait and see what happens I guess. I wonder why we haven't gotten a 3D Kirby game until just this spring that's kind of shocking considering we had Mario 64 for Mario and Donkey Kong 64 for Donkey Kong back in the N64 days and those games were 3D so why couldn't we have a 3D Kirby game for the N64 era as well (as well as the GameCube era because we have Luigi's Mansion, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, you name it)?

Big guess but seems like it could be it : the waddle dees that you help that end up creating a whole village ( or just returning to their village that existed before all this ) and populates it. Could easily be the way to progress in a open world where you need to deliver friends to progress. The trailer shows kirby helping waddle dees and then the village right away. This makes me feel like its a link that the trailer wanted us to make.

Anyway i love how the game looks in this trailer , i got big mario odyssey vibes and i love it.

@Ice tea Donkey Kong had a 3D game on N64 but it was an extremely bloated, terrible collect-a-thon. I kinda wish they did the Linear 3D approach with it like they are doing with Kirby, something more in the lines of Mario 3D World, Bubsy 3D or Crash Bandicoot

The best thing about this is because it's now in 3 dimensions there is room for more variety in hat powers.

One small issue with old Kirby games was many powers felt redundant or inferior to other ones because you'd have like a couple that could erase screens of enemies and a few that did next to nothing.

I mean it was still fun to just play around with whatever you got but it still limited the variety.

What better way to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary than with the first 3D Kirby game! I hope this game gets record-breaking sales for the series like we’ve seen with a lot of other Nintendo games on the Switch.

Most of the 3DS Era Kirby Games on used a '2.5D Game Engine' where 3D Models are used and paths can travel in curves or switch planes, but the actual Platforming still happens on a 2D layout.
Kirby's Blowout Blast, a fleshed-out update to Planet Robobot's 'Kirby 3D' Tech Demo, was the first major step HAL Laboratories had made towards a genuine 3D Kirby Engine since Kirby's Air Ride, focusing on Kirby's base abilities without Copy Powers.
Kirby's Battle Royale, while not _exactly_ a 3D Title, more a 2.5D Top-Down battler, still delved into bringing Copy Abilities to a pseudo-3D environment relatively seamlessly.

3D Kirby has been attempted many times in the past, but Sakurai wouldn't want Kirby's first Authentic outing in 3D to happen without a Perfected 3D Kirby Engine, so most earlier attempts got cancelled. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the culmination of all the efforts HAL has made in developing a Definitive 3D Kirby Engine, and the astounding amount of quality gameplay in the trailer shows how perfectly they've hit the mark!

@Harry Best Yes, there was ALSO a 'cancelled' 2D game, but there was a 3D game shown off that got cancelled, and from my understanding, two more 3D games that were never shown but supposedly went into development before being cancelled.

Kirby doesn't often kill waddle dees out side of game play.

I don't know if it was just me but I always seemed to dodge the waddle-dees. They never really seemed to want to hurt me and sometimes they were just sleeping, I mean, how could I in good conscience eat someone who was sleeping?

    • Seth Daniels
Seth Daniels 13 days ago +17

Yeah it’s not like Goombas or Koopa Troopas, the Dees are just following Dedede’s orders or minding their own business. I mean, there’s probably some nasty ones out there, but for the most part, it’s good to see them getting a bit of a break.
