@Bromuzl It became what World of Warcraft did a long time ago - a colorful chatroom to spare time with your peers. I don't think the community would even want for the game to become "better".
There is no difference to the state of both games - community is so used to the low standard that, at this point, if Riot tried to make drastic changes it would yield negative results for their wallets.
That being said, I hope to see you all back in the nostalgia trip on the release of "League of Legends: Classic - Mists of the Crystal Scar" and "League of Legends: Classic - The Wrath of the Twisted Treeline".

I love hearing stories about how Devolver Digital were just a handful of people working from home mostly getting to know developers remotely while having no offfices or corporate bs to worry about. Dunkey has social media presence and a platform to advertise games through already, I sincerely hope this works out well since it will feel a hell of a lot better for someone who knows games over the usual AAA publisher that only know business and couldn't care less if the game were good as long as it makes money.

Of course this is the next steps after Dunkey achieved 10k hours on 'studying' games. Obviously.
I believed Dunkey will hold to his principles. For anybody who forgets, he proved that when Microsoft asked him to review their shitty games, even tho he had no money to pay rent due to his shitty employees, he still put out an honest review, and of course never got paid by MS.

how far into the projects is he expecting teams to be in? I wouldn't mind pitching ours. I think our game looks great (albeit unpolished) and has an interesting premise but it's not bug-free by a long shot yet and still has at least another 4-6 months dev time left. Apart from that I think it ticks all the boxes, it's fun, it's definitely highly original. The potential is all there, but it's just not quite there as a 'game'

    • C0wsmacker
      C0wsmacker 12 hours ago

@EvilKris His entire channel was based around being light hearted and comedy, if he suddenly went full 180 and tried to be super serious I would honestly not invest at all, I want an actual gamer to do some publishing, not a fucking corporate suit who doesn't know what makes a game fun or not yet we have to fill his pockets for our games to even exist? I am at the point that I am borderline WANTING another game market crash just so these people leave this job market and stop destroying what I grew up loving and have grown to hate more and more each year as I refuse to play newer stuff and keep playing older stuff(in the last 2 years legit only "new" shit has been dlc for me, and dlc already is its own beast since its just the shittier version of expansion packs) Board games are currently in a golden age of new shit and great shit while video gaming has stagnated the last decade(and video games have way more potential then board games as far as what can be done).

    • EvilKris
      EvilKris 20 hours ago

@C0wsmacker it's been very lukewarm in the chats I've had. most other devs I've discussed this with to over the last few days seem to think he's in over his head with the business+competition side, won't have enough time to be a real publisher (with his youtube channel), doesn't have the connections or that he doesn't really have that much of an eye for truly original games (after all- he hated Death Stranding for months)
Others have said his pitch came across as hyperbolic and unprofessional with the silly voices and such.
We all agree that the exposure would be nice though, and could make all the difference. I'm still on the fence personally.

@Genesis8629 NFTs alone won't allow you to digital trading since you need a separate system that ensures that access is given only to the 'real owner' of the NFT, and you can do that without NFTs. Unless you are suggesting making the entire fucking compiled code of the game an NFT, which is unfeasible afaik ("NFT images" are normally just a pointer--a URL--to a image file on a server).
Ownership of digital media is cool. NFT is not how you achieve it.

I'm so on board for this. I'll be playing *all* of Dunkey's published videos. All the detractors are confusing development with publishing. Dunk, as an indie publisher, just has to see what developer's have already got and decide whether it's good or not. This is gonna be sick for consumers. He's right 100%

@Modie I mean I would hope he is prepared for that, if not he will learn I'm sure he is gonna slip up fron time to time as well, but honestly if dunkey fails then the game industry stay the same and we dont lose anything, but if he succeeds we all win. So either way I support it cuz I have nothing to lose.

    • Modie

      @Godzilla
The problem is that being passionate is one thing. Being good at the job is the next one. You can have a group of passionate developers, but if none of them are able to actually do what they imagine, then passion won't bring you anywhere. And then starts the problem. The passionate developers weren't able to meet a deadline even if it was really loosely set. They still missed it. Are you still funding the game? Are you still funding the passion not knowing if they can actually deliver what they want? Pump in more money when you could use that money to finance other developers? These will be the problems that they are facing. And the main issue with Dunkey's initial video is that everyone on the other side is just waiting for the one moment. "Game gets delayed for the 3rd time", "Developers being released without finishing their game" or "Released game isn't fully finished and is missing features".

    • Godzilla
      Godzilla 3 days ago

The thing is he isnt trying to make any games, people seem to miss that he keeps saying "publisher" so his main contribution will be money so the developers can fund their indie projects, he clearly wants some say in the project but I imagine that's to keep out crap mechanics and gattcha schemes.
so his lack of development is only as much a hindrance if he is issitant on implementation of a feature that doesnt fit in the game it is in.

Actually, I'd argue that because so much farming simulators were released this year showing how repetitive and stale the video game world became, Dunkey got enough motivation and drive to finally launch this. The farming simulators might be bad but they pushed the development of something that can be potentially beautiful
