For the refs to call both in favor of Bama was what made it worse. If both 50-50 calls go Georgia’s way, they win something like 40-9. But the refs didn’t affect the game lol.

What a bunch of sore losers, even when their team wins! Y'all just don't know how to act after winning a NC! LMAOOO🤣🤣!!!
UGA wanted it more than some of Bama's players did. I'm glad UGA got them a trophy 🏆 and a ring, they deserve it with the players, coaching and hard work that gets you to the top! ROLL TIDE 🌊🌊 BAMA will be in the playoffs next year for another shot at #7 for Coach Saban at BAMA! If not, I doubt it will be 40 years before the next NC!

@Perry Webb I agree with Perry. What made the Stettson fumble ruling so egregious is that they gave Young such a huge break earlier. I'm not sure I agree that what Stettson did should be considered a fumble, either. I don't know the rules but Stettson very intentionally threw that ball and it traveled forward in the air for at least 10 yards. If that can be considered a fumble there needs to be a rule change. The Young play was him literally flicking the ball to the ground. He was only doing that because the defender was forcing him to do that. If 2 quarterbacks are being disrupted by defenders and one can get the ball 10 yards down field in the air while another can only throw it to the ground... The guy who got the ball 10 yards down field without an interception should be considered the qb doing a better job. The rules about control need to be changed. You shouldn't be able to "fumble" a ball 10 yards down field in the air. That's basically saying a fumble and a first down can be the same thing. I thought Young's play was clearly a fumble. When they reversed it I figured they were going easy on them since these were amateurs and not professionals. When the Stettson play happened I looked at it and said this doesn't look anything close to as much of a fumble as the Young play. How did he just "fumble" the ball 10 yards forwards in the air? If a Georgia wide receiver was there to catch it would they have called it a fumble recovered by Georgia? I really doubt it. The quarterback who got the ball 10 yards down field under pressure should be considered better than the qb who flicked the ball to the ground and watched a defender pick it up and run it in for a ruled touchdown. I honestly thought for a second that some crimson tide boosters were paying off officials. I could understand if they called both plays fumbles. I could understand if they called both plays incomplete passes. If only one play was a fumble it HAD to be the Young play.

Stetsons journey really is like something out of a movie. Everyone was giving up on him after the SEC championship. My brother was convinced, I was thinking the same. Everyone wanted J.T. Daniels. Happy to say he proved me wrong. I may be a TN fan, but a big loss for Bama is like a win for me. Congrats UGA.

Even better, It looked like he was due for outside pass protection (You saw him take that first right step) And then he immediately cut alllll the way back in front of the quarterback's line of sight to pick up the blitz.

absolutely great read on his part.

Surprised Jomboy didn’t point out the Georgia coach screaming and indicating “go down” after the interception. He was really worried about a fumble on the Pick 6 run back.

Kelee Ringo did and interview after the game where he basically said he ran it in because he DID NOT want to go back out there on defense only up by one score. Saban had all his time outs so that could’ve been what happened. A three-and-out by the offense and then he’s right back in that situation. Hey, one way or another the defense is gonna end up back on the field, might as well be with a 15-point lead instead of 8!

While this was a fantastic catch by the refs, this is also why football refs are infuriating. Ref sees an in bounds recovery by 1/30th of an inch from 15 yards away but can miss a blatant face mask 4 feet in front of them.

For the refs to call both in favor of Bama was what made it worse. If both 50-50 calls go Georgia’s way, they win something like 40-9. But the refs didn’t affect the game lol.

@tester I agree 100% that both were the right calls . With that I'll also say that yesterday was not a good day for me and I went to typing for fun/spite to provoke anyone that read my comments. And it did rankle a few, lol.
My apologies Mr tester . Imo, there just isn't a perfect solution to the bad/no calls by the refs. They're doing a pretty damn good job considering all the movement and contact that they have to watch like a hawk for around ,idk,10 seconds and then make a decision based on what they observed in a matter of a few more seconds. It's really an amazing capability to decipher all that input in a matter of seconds, and then make the correct call 90 something% of the time.
With that, I'll leave you with no animosity towards you or anyone else. Thank you for your time and ROLL TIDE SINCE 1965! DAMN I'm getting old!

@Brad Rolling For someone saying people are complaining and arguing too much about this, you sure did say a lot. You also rush to assumption and aren't paying attention. I'm not a fan of either team, in fact I don't care much at all for either but respect both. What I do care about is proper officiating which is something we have not seen much of this year. We can't hold officials accountable if we don't understand the rules and this one they got right.

If Georgia didn’t end up winning this game, I would fear for the refs’ safety. The calls they made were generally ok, but the problem is they didn’t call it both ways. They called everything against Georgia and pretty much nothing against Bama for almost the entire game.

@Flash-Player Account when GA did it, there was no one in the area and the QB was not outside the tackles, when Bama did it he was inside the tackles but there was an eligible receiver right there at the line of scrimmage, so it is not intentional grounding. After the Refs looked at the tape they even said why it wasn't a penalty and the replay showed who the receiver was and where the ball hit. Had that receiver not been there, Bama would have also been guilty.

    • Youtube Account
      Youtube Account 10 days ago

@batsonelec C I don’t know if we are talking about the same play then. If I’m mistaken so be it. But the middle of the field seemed pretty open. And I thought, hey, they called inten. grounding on the same thing with Georgia.
I’m not saying I thought the non-call was intentional. Refs being human is part of the game.
If Georgia had lost I wouldn’t be blaming a bad call or calls.
Unlike the previous GA - AL national championship game. 😁

    • batsonelec C
      batsonelec C 10 days ago

@Flash-Player Account there was a receiver 2 yards away from the ball Young threw so it was a legal throw. ( it landed at his feet about 2 yards away ) That is the difference.

    • Youtube Account
Youtube Account 12 days ago +1

I can’t agree with you overall.
But there is one example of what you are saying.
Georgia was called for intentional grounding when Bennett thru the ball about 2.0 yards in to the middle of an empty field. The refs discussed it and called intentional grounding.
Second half Young does the exact same thing. No call.

When I saw this in real time I immediately thought the Bama defender was out of bounds, and I never saw a replay of his footwork and was surprised no one on the broadcast even me tinned it.
Looked like a fumble to me, but I don't think the defender had control before he stepped out...but the fan is right...it was close.

As a UGA fan, what I remember is that when Georgia was in the 2017 playoffs, they were going against Baker Mayfield and Stetson imitated Baker in practice on the scout team. Made a name for himself there, then at the start of the 2020 season QB1 Jamie Newman opted out and QB2 D'Wuan Mathis didn't play very well, so they brought Stetson in and he played pretty well through the first 8-9 games before JT Daniels came in from injury. Then this season JT got hurt again, throwing arm injury I think, and Stetson got the call. He's good with his legs and usually makes good decisions, so even after JT came back he was still QB1, and now here we are

@Matt Jewett no chance he plays in the pros. He's a good college qb but doesn't really have the attributes to be a pro.

You always know the teams that's not use to winning...remember this is not the first National Champion game Bama has ever lost. Media acting like this is something that never happened before. Remember Bama has won 18 National titles. So the question is...can UGA keep this going. One title in 40 years doesn't impress. But congrats to UGA for their win. Go Bama!

I'm surprised you didn't mention Kirby Smart yelling at #5 to go down after that final interception. He's probably thinking, "If you go down win, don't risk a fumble, yada yada yada." Alas, the touchdown was just as good.

Watching it live, it looked like a fumble. It also looked like an Alabama recovery, live. Not sure how others didn't see and react to that. Sure, it was no Jameis Winston QB fumble, but it looked more like a fumble than a forward pass, live.

  • Adam Russell
    Adam Russell 10 days ago

That was one of the best 'calls' by two refs all year. To see it was loose in his hands when he made the throwing motion and then for the other guy to see the Bama player had possession and the foot was in bounds, had green between it and the sideline. Superb call in the split seconds...and backed up by slow-mo. I gave those guys standing Os. And really that crew called a fantastic game with a few ticky-tack holdings and a few no call PIs, but....job well done. IMHO

Hot takes: That hat might be worth something someday (see Dewey defeats Truman). I think that player developed such muscle memory to stay inbounds that he did "mean to." Hell of a game, nice to see Bama lose to somebody (not a hater just a CFB fan).

I had a friend working security at the game, the hat was seized immediately after and put back in the box with the others that never got sent out (publicity stunt) and put on a truck to go to somewhere in Africa

@The Hippo I'm not evaluating his decision to run. Easy to say that it was worth it given the result. But as the Nigel Tufnel says, "there is a fine line between clever and stupid," and this was dancing on that line IMO. I doubt he heard or saw the coach, so I don't fault him for not getting the message and making his own best judgment. Interesting nevertheless.

With all this, I do wonder how the SEC will be next year with all the new coaching hires and all. I know Alabama will still have a lot of great players, this isn’t the end of their dynasty in any way, but I think the SEC could be a fun chaos next year.

I’m looking forward to it, especially as a Mississippi State fan. It’ll be fun.

"No one saw either of those happen in live time?"

    Are you kidding me?

I was watching on my phone and immediately yelled, "fumble!"

I also thought that Alabama didn't recover the ball in bounds because the Alabama player wasn't trying to recover it in bounds.

The fumble should have been immediately obvious to most of us watching the game.

Seriously, I love how everyone is glossing over the fact that, after the fumble recovery, Alabama scored but mostly because Latu pushed off a Georgia defender. Herbstreit even called it and acknowledged that the refs missed it.

And at least we got to see the Bama natty gear before it was sent to whatever third world country the losers gear gets sent to. I would kind of like to get my hands on some of that sweet early 90s Buffalo Bills Super Bowl champs gear.

This call was actually amazing, but you're right. I don't think there's any way that kid meant to make a football play on the ball and just performing the muscle memory of following through to the whistle.

2:52 - Absolute BOSS statement right there.
2:29 - KUDOS to the running back for making this play happen with the block.
2:56 - That's a man pass right there. Knowing a guy is in your face and you have enough poise to just zip it over his head for an easy TD.

I always thought that College sports was honest until I saw this call.. even the in the Booth official said , his arm was going forward, so it is an incomplete pass.

What a game by Bennett though. Dude nearly cost them the game with the turnover and then put up 2 god tier drives to win it. It was pretty easy to see how much it meant to him, especially given the path he took to get there

What pisses me off about this fumble recovery. This same play happened with alabama and they ruled it a forward which made it an incomplete pass. Doesn’t matter , the dawgs won anyway….. That Ringo pick six!!! Go Dawgs!! They should make a movie about this team man. What a story about the mailman, walk on to national champions.
