Hurrah for Cancer - Andre Vincent was Unwell: Part 3 || Cancer is the modern-day bogeyman. Its so scary that some people dont even like to say the word, let alone have a laugh about it. But when comedian André Vincent was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney in March 2002, all he could think about was the potential for some really great stand-up material. He started his career as a professional show-off at an early age, working when any theatre company needed a street urchin, a herald or a small child to up-stage everyone. He then became a boy chorister, to the delight of his family whose dream was for him to follow his grandma into the world of opera and become a top class tenor. Unfortunately for his family he followed the career path of another relative, his great-grandfather, who was an acrobat. So when young Andrés voice broke, he returned to the theatre, arguing with directors that Hamlet could indeed be fat. Disheartened by this small-mindedness, he packed up his greasepaint and ran away to the circus. After a quick stint of training in Paris, André started travelling the world. With skills in abundance and his unique style of improvisation, he has performed in the strangest of places from a bullring in Columbia to Vietnamese refugee camps. André found himself working at Disney World Florida at the end of 88. Mask work and regimented smiling were really not his forté. A friend took him to a comedy club in Orlando and three hours later another door opened. Within a few months he was compering at small stand-up clubs across America. The pinnacle of this work was opening for Bob Hope in Columbus, Ohio in 92. With his head swelling, he returned home to conquer the comedy circuit of the UK, and established himself as one of the top stand-ups in the country today. His individual style has taken him across the scope of the performance medium: a Saturday night show on Channel 4, three sell-out runs at the Edinburgh festival, countless radio shows, presenter of two award-nominated television programmes, a regular face on daytime panel games and even an appearance as himself on the childrens drama Byker Grove. A new chapter in his life started with the arrival of a seven pound cancerous tumour in his kidney. After its removal, André climbed up on stage and started performing comedy about cancer and took an award-winning show to the 2002 Edinburgh Fringe.

This is the original artist & original version*. 1988s CRASH, was The Primitives most successful of their singles from their first album, LOVELY. It earned them a UK Top 5 hit (and made the U.S. Top 3). This was a great achievement for an indie band from Coventry, England. The album, Lovely is considered by many as one of the top Indie Pop albums of that era and has influenced many other commercial and indie artists. The Primitives broke up in 1992. Unbeknown to them; Crash was remixed and showed up on the soundtrack for the film, Dumb and Dumber. The "95 Mix", as it was called, was given slicker, more commercialized production including additional guitars, percussion, organ and backing vocals. These additions were performed by faceless studio musicians and not by The Primitives. Over the years, around a dozen cover versions have been made by various artists. Interestingly, the more indie artists cover the original version, while more commercial/younger artists are in reality, covering the "95 Mix", familiar to them from the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack. From 1986-1992, The Primitives made three full-length albums, LOVELY, PURE, and GALORE and about 15 singles. Phoenix Helicopter Crash - The ACTUAL Crash || By JACQUES BILLEAUD, Associated Press Writer PHOENIX - Federal investigators hope to determine why two news helicopters covering a police chase on live television collided and crashed to the ground, killing all four people on board. Both helicopters from local TV stations went down in a grassy park in central Phoenix and caught fire Friday afternoon. No one on the ground was hurt. TV viewers did not witness the accident because cameras aboard both aircraft were pointed at the ground, but they saw video from one of the helicopters break up and begin to spin before the station abruptly switched to the studio. Killed on board the KTVK helicopter were pilot Scott Bowerbank and photographer Jim Cox, the station reported. On board the KNXV aircraft were reporter-pilot Craig Smith and photographer Rick Krolak, that station said. A Federal Aviation Administration investigator was at the crash scene by late Friday and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were expected to arrive Saturday. The helicopters were covering the police pursuit of a work truck. Just before the collision, the driver had jumped out of the nearly disabled flatbed pickup and carjacked another truck. The man was later taken into custody by a SWAT team after barricading himself inside a house. Just before the picture broke up, Smith said, "Oh geez!" Police identified the suspect as Christopher J. Jones, 23, and said he was booked into jail late Friday night on two counts of vehicle theft, four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest with other charges expected to be filed later. Earlier on Friday, Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris suggested the suspect could "be held responsible for any of the deaths from this tragedy." The two helicopters came down on the lawn in front of a boarded-up church at the park. Firefighters swarmed to the area as thick black smoke rose from the scene. Rick Gotchie, an air conditioning contractor, was working nearby when he noticed the helicopters overhead. He said they began circling closer as he continued watching, and one appeared to get too close to the other. "I kept saying Go lower, go lower, but he didnt," Gotchie said. "It was like a vacuum. They just got sucked into each other, and they both exploded and pieces were flying everywhere." He said he ran to the crash site, but "no one got out." FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the pilots of the five news helicopters and one police chopper over the chase were not talking to air traffic controllers at the time, which is normal. "Typically air traffic controllers clear helicopters into an area where they can cover a chase like this," Gregor said. "Once they are in the area, the pilots themselves are responsible for keeping themselves separated from other aircraft." Pilots generally use a dedicated radio frequency to talk to each other and maintain their positions, Gregor said. "There is a high degree of coordination," Gregor said. "To fly for a TV station you have to have a commercial rating, which means more (flight hours), more training." Gregor said the FAA has not had major safety problems with news chopper operations. Keith McCutchen, a past president of the National Broadcast Pilots Association and a news pilot for 11 years in Indianapolis, said pilot awareness is vital while on the scene of a story because of the many distractions that could spell trouble. "You are watching the scene. You have to bring your attention inside to look at the monitors to see what the audience is seeing so you can converse. But youre also having to direct your attention to the other aircraft flying around you. You have to have your head on a swivel in those kinds of situations." Cockpit Voice Recorder - Delta Airlines Flight 1141 Crash || Delta Air Lines Flight 1141 was a flight that flew from Jackson to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah. On August 31, 1988, Flight 1141 crashed after takeoff from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. Two of the seven crew members and twelve of the 101 passengers on board lost their lives. On this occasion, the aircraft was a Boeing 727 Advanced, registration number N473DA. It was delivered in 1973, the 992nd Boeing 727 to be delivered. Two facts were primarily blamed for the tragedy of flight 1141: The crew had not ensured that the wings flaps were properly positioned for take-off, and the planes unprepared take-off horn was not functioning. As a result, the plane struck a nearby object immediately after taking off, causing the accident. In an unexpected sequel to the investigation, the broadcast of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) by the media demonstrating why the crew mistakenly mispositioned the flaps, provoked such an outcry by pilots, that subsequent releases of CVR data are protected by law and are carefully vetted by the NTSB. FAA regulations require a sterile cockpit before takeoff. This means there is to be no conversation outside of talk pertaining to the plane and pending flight. (For example, reviewing Pre-Takeoff checklists.) The CVR tapes recorded extensive talk about the pilots mixed beverages and the dating habits of the flight attendants. After impact, the aircraft broke into two peices and skidded to a stop some four thousand feet from the end of the runway. As evacuation procedures were begun, a fire broke out near the fuel lines to the engines in the rear of the aircraft. Out of the 108 passengers and crew aboard, 14 did not live to tell their story. The Captain was the last person to leave the aircraft alive, removed some 45 minutes after the accident.

Hounded by unheralded Tyronn Lue, Iverson scored seven of his 48 points in a one-minute span of overtime as the Philadelphia 76ers stunned the Los Angeles Lakers with a 107-101 victory in the opener of the NBA Finals. Iverson scored 30 points in a scintillating first half, letting everyone know that the 76ers were going to be more than another pushover for the powerful Lakers. His late flurry silenced the Staples Center and unceremoniously ended Los Angeles run at a perfect postseason. "Anybody that bet on it, some broke people out there," Iverson said. "Im glad nobody didnt bet their life on it cause they definitely would be dead right now." Instead, the Sixers -- double-digit underdogs -- are very much alive as they again displayed their heroic heart. "Our guys just try hard," Sixers coach Larry Brown said. "This is kind of unexpected but its neat." In between Iverson outbursts, Lue stymied the NBA Most Valuable Player for nearly 20 minutes, using his quickness to prevent Iverson from even getting the ball, let alone shoot it. He had spent the last two practices impersonating Iverson and apparently got pretty good at it. "I just try to deny him the ball as much as possible, because when he does get the ball, the best penetrator in the game is going to be hard to stop," Lue said. "We were trying to keep the ball out of his hands as much as possible." "He was holding me the whole time," Iverson said. But the third-year reserve let his guard down for just a second and it cost the Lakers. Iversons two free throws pulled the Sixers within 99-98 with 1:46 remaining and the Lakers called a timeout. Lue drove and threw up a wild shot as he fell out of bounds. The Sixers rebounded and Iverson ran out in transition. With Lue nowhere in sight, he drilled a 3-pointer that gave Philadelphia the lead for good at 101-99 with 1:19 left. "That was really the knife that wounded us," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said.
