Snooker Ronnie OSullivan 147 break UK Championship 15.12.07 || "It was nice to give the crowd something to cheer about at the end," said OSullivan. "This is a great venue and a great tournament but my snooker tonight was not great, it was so poor. I played 16 poor frames but everyone now will be talking about the 147 so I feel like Ive cheated, or taken a short cut. Id rather have won 9-3, playing solid and not making any unforced errors. "The first black in the 147 was a blind shot but it wasnt as hard as it looked. It was 8-8 and I felt like I wanted to get something out of the game, to go out in a blaze of glory. Once I got to 40 I decided to go for it, and I felt a few butterflies which was good. "Its nice to get to eight 147s, Id like to get to double figures, maybe get one at the Masters and at Sheffield and make four this season. "Mark had the upper hand for most of the match, hes a tough competitor, you dont get to a world final otherwise. At 6-3 I was losing it, really struggling. There was no fluency, no power or finesse in my shots. I was a foot out on some of my positional shots." As for the match with Maguire, OSullivan added: "Stephen said in an interview that hes been watching me and noticed Im giving away chances. Hes right, and only a few people would recognise that. Ive been playing quickly and scoring ok, which has camouflaged the fact that Im making a lot of mistakes. The bookmakers will make me favourite for tomorrow but Id make Stephen favourite. If I play like I did today Ill get beaten because Stephen is a winner." Selby said: "It was a brilliant end to the match. Ive had a good week and I wouldnt change anything. Oblivion Boys: "Pot Snooker" (1986) || This is an undiscovered gem from the first series of "Saturday Live". The Oblivion Boys (Steve Frost and Mark Arden) serve up an inspired sketch filled with surreal and (largely) silent slapstick based around the phenomenom of televised snooker, which was becoming omnipresent on UK TV by the 80s. An interesting 80s pop culture moment occurs when the sketch briefly morphs into "Robin of Sherwood", ( http://tinyurl.com/n8zqn ) a popular 80s show on ITV with music by Clannad (From their album "Legend"). The name is a play of the title of a popular snooker show at the time called "Pot Black". (By the way, anyone thats played snooker, or even watched it on TV, will tell you that the Oblivion Boys deliberately break nearly every rule in snooker right from the start of the sketch onwards. Snooker Matthew Stevens v Paul Hunter 2004 Final Frame || Matthew Stevens fought back from a seemingly hopeless position to edge out Paul Hunter 13-12 at The Crucible. Stevens, who began the session 10-6 behind, took all four of the opening frames to level after an inspired run with breaks of 58, 53, 64 and 73. Hunter went 12-10 up but let Stevens back in with a missed match-ball pink in the 23rd. The ninth seed cleared up to narrow the gap, forced a decider and edged a nail-biting decider on the pink. Stevens was delighted with victory over his close friend but admitted his heart was in his mouth during a thrilling final frame. "I played four perfect frames at the start, but then Paul came back well and I had to dig deep," said Stevens. "It was an unbelievable end. We were both going for shots and missing - it was like the Davis and Taylor final. "I think Paul is one the top two players in the world - he was the man to beat at this tournament." A disappointed Hunter reiterated his desire to become world champion. "Youve got to believe in yourself in this game and I do - before the end of my career I will definitely be lifting that silver trophy," said Hunter. "I was trying my hardest but I suppose the pressure did get to me a bit. Snooker Stephen Maguire 147 China Open 29.03.08 || Stephen Maguire scored the first-ever 147 in the 2008 World Snooker China Open, the maximum score for a single break, to beat Ryan Day 6-5 in the semifinals on Saturday. The break came in the second frame of Maguire against Ryan Day. Day made a mistake in the opening shot to spread the red balls perfectly. Maguire took the chance to piked them up, taking all 15 with blacks to score the second 147 of his career. "It was a good match to be involved in and it was obviously a bit tense at the end. It was good to get over the line," admitted Maguire. "Its brilliant, apart from winning tournaments it is the best feeling ever. They dont come along very often and potting the last black was just great," added Maguire. Maguire then became the first player to make an official maximum in an Asian ranking event. Maguire made his first 147 in the qualifying rounds of the 2000 Scottish Open and his second 147 was the 61st in snooker history, 38th in a ranking event, and the fifth of the season after one apiece for Jamie Burnett and Tom Ford and two for Ronnie OSullivan.
