Attorney Tara Scott from the law firm of Trope and Trope will represent Brit -- awkward, since the firm has asked to withdraw as counsel. As we reported, Britney is at Cedars-Sinai on a "5150 hold," meaning theres evidence shes a danger to herself or others -- others as in her kids. Heres whats interesting. Weve been reporting for several months now that Britney doesnt have a drug or alcohol problem -- that her instability is mental, not chemical. Well placed sources tell us what happened last night is not rooted in drugs, and that of late, her mental state has deteriorated to the point that what happened at her home was not unexpected. meltdown

Britney Spears lawyers quit custody case || Hello on this Thursday, January 3, 2008. Im Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update. Court papers say Britney Spears lawyers want to quit. The law firm Trope and Trope apparently filed a request yesterday to withdraw from the pop stars custody case. The papers say the singer and law firm had a "breakdown in communications." Spears has also had two other failed relationships with previous lawyers. She and Federline have been battling it out for months for custody of their sons, 2 year old Sean Preston and 1 year old Jayden James. The Late Night Kings of comedy are back. David Letterman returned with "The Late Show" last night...hosting comedian Robin Williams. Letterman struck a deal with the Writers guild allowing him to return on air with his writers. Jay Leno, who had Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee on "The Tonight Show," returned without writers. Conan OBrien was also without writers, but he did sport a new red beard, saying it was a "strike beard." The WGA strike has been going on for two months now. TV host Elizabeth Hasselbeck is returning to her spot on "The View." Shell reportedly be back on the ABC show on Monday after 2 and a half months of maternity leave. She and husband, football star Tim Hasselbeck welcomed a baby boy named Taylor Thomas in November. ABC says her comeback show will include a surprise guest. Jessica Simpson is now working on a country album. The pop star, who grew up in Texas, says shes a true country girl and has always wanted to return to her roots. Simpson added that shell even write some of the songs on the album. She says writing is a good way for her to tell her story. The singer has recently made headlines for her new romance with NFL football star Tony Romo. Anne Hathaway is signing on to be Lancomes leading lady. The cosmetic company says the actress will be the newest ambassador for the brand. Hathaway will be a part of Lancomes ad campaign for a new fragrance...set to be released next September. Shortly after, Federlines lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, arrives. 9 p.m.: Kaplan leaves Spears home. Spears lawyer — who filed a request to be released from representing the pop star Wednesday — Sorrell Trope, tells Us: "In a normal case when someone shows up with a certified court order saying the kids need to be somewhere else, the police see to it that the order is obeyed. But that is in a normal case." 10:08 p.m.: News helicopters hover over Spears home. Britney Spears hospitalized ( CNN Breaking News ) || LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Pop star Britney Spears remained hospitalized Friday, hours after police were called to her home Thursday night to mediate a custody dispute. Police initially said Spears was taken to a hospital for tests to see if she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and for a psychological evaluation after the situation at her home, but Officer April Harding said Friday she could not confirm that or other reports that Spears was hospitalized for mental evaluation. "For her own welfare, she was transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment," Harding said, according to The Associated Press. On Friday morning, lawyers representing Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, spent about 30 minutes in chambers Friday with Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon, who has been handling the couples custody dispute, the AP reported. The attorneys did not comment to reporters. Spears appeared to be conscious as she was rolled out of her Studio City home on a gurney about three hours after police and ambulances arrived there Thursday night. According to the AP, officers were called to Spears house around 8 p.m. to respond to a custodial dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department said. By about 10:30 p.m., six police cars, two ambulances and a fire truck had entered the gated community that includes Spears house. Several police cars were seen in the area earlier in the night. Spears turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Lee said. Spears has been in a heated battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline over custody of their two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1 Federline, Spears former backup dancer, holds primary custody of the children. Spears has been in trouble with the court earlier concerning her compliance with court orders in the custody case. Spears appeared for a deposition in the case earlier Thursday, Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told reporters during the day, according to the AP. She was deposed for 14 minutes, Kaplan said. Comedy-EDDIE GRIFFIN "Woman, start giving up the p#ssy" || Eddie Griffin (born July 15, 1968) is an American comedian and television/film actor. Early life Griffin was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Doris Thomas and Eddie Griffin, Sr. He has two siblings, Luther and Wilbert. He attended Lincoln College Preparatory Academy High School in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was voted class clown three years in a row. After marrying at age sixteen, he divorced a year later. Griffin has one child, Eddie Jr., born in 1986. Shortly after his divorce, Eddie joined the Navy but was discharged after a urine test returned positive for abuse. Griffin served 6 months in a county jail after getting in a fight at a parade. Eddie then worked as a choreographer for a dance crew that performed half-time shows for the Kansas City Chiefs. One fateful night, his cousin took him to a comedy club and dared him to get on stage during open mic night. He was originally supposed to be on stage for 3 minutes, but instead performed off-the-cuff for 45 minutes successfully. Career Griffin has starred in several films including Meteor Man (1993), Armageddon (1998), Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999), Double Take (2001), Undercover Brother (2002), John Q (2002), Scary Movie 3 (2003), Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005) and Norbit (2007). Eddie was set to star alongside Steven Seagal in Once Upon A Time In The Hood a thriller set in New Mexico. He also starred in the UPN television series Malcolm & Eddie (1996--2000). In addition to his acting credits, he also performed on two tracks from Dr. Dres 1999 album, 2001. He also has appeared on commercials for Miller Beers Man Laws. Griffin is well-known for his comedic routine of imitating Michael Jackson being on crack cocaine. He is generally considered a talented stand-up comic, displaying a flamboyant, cinematic style. He was ranked at number 62 on Comedy Centrals list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time. Personal life Griffin crashed a rare Enzo Ferrari while practicing for a charity racing event on March 26, 2007. Following the event, Griffin left the car unharmed and joked about his inability to drive (referring to himself in the third person with pseudonym "Undercover Brother" as he also does in the film). The Enzo belonged to film producer Daniel Sadek, writer and producer of the film Redline, a film Griffin is in, which bears the car on its promotional poster. Griffin suffered a heart attack after doing the salsa dance for a taping of his show Malcolm and Eddie. Griffin has joint-custody of his son, Eddie Jr., with his ex-wife. Phoenix Helicopter Crash - The ACTUAL Crash || By JACQUES BILLEAUD, Associated Press Writer PHOENIX - Federal investigators hope to determine why two news helicopters covering a police chase on live television collided and crashed to the ground, killing all four people on board. Both helicopters from local TV stations went down in a grassy park in central Phoenix and caught fire Friday afternoon. No one on the ground was hurt. TV viewers did not witness the accident because cameras aboard both aircraft were pointed at the ground, but they saw video from one of the helicopters break up and begin to spin before the station abruptly switched to the studio. Killed on board the KTVK helicopter were pilot Scott Bowerbank and photographer Jim Cox, the station reported. On board the KNXV aircraft were reporter-pilot Craig Smith and photographer Rick Krolak, that station said. A Federal Aviation Administration investigator was at the crash scene by late Friday and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were expected to arrive Saturday. The helicopters were covering the police pursuit of a work truck. Just before the collision, the driver had jumped out of the nearly disabled flatbed pickup and carjacked another truck. The man was later taken into custody by a SWAT team after barricading himself inside a house. Just before the picture broke up, Smith said, "Oh geez!" Police identified the suspect as Christopher J. Jones, 23, and said he was booked into jail late Friday night on two counts of vehicle theft, four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest with other charges expected to be filed later. Earlier on Friday, Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris suggested the suspect could "be held responsible for any of the deaths from this tragedy." The two helicopters came down on the lawn in front of a boarded-up church at the park. Firefighters swarmed to the area as thick black smoke rose from the scene. Rick Gotchie, an air conditioning contractor, was working nearby when he noticed the helicopters overhead. He said they began circling closer as he continued watching, and one appeared to get too close to the other. "I kept saying Go lower, go lower, but he didnt," Gotchie said. "It was like a vacuum. They just got sucked into each other, and they both exploded and pieces were flying everywhere." He said he ran to the crash site, but "no one got out." FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the pilots of the five news helicopters and one police chopper over the chase were not talking to air traffic controllers at the time, which is normal. "Typically air traffic controllers clear helicopters into an area where they can cover a chase like this," Gregor said. "Once they are in the area, the pilots themselves are responsible for keeping themselves separated from other aircraft." Pilots generally use a dedicated radio frequency to talk to each other and maintain their positions, Gregor said. "There is a high degree of coordination," Gregor said. "To fly for a TV station you have to have a commercial rating, which means more (flight hours), more training." Gregor said the FAA has not had major safety problems with news chopper operations. Keith McCutchen, a past president of the National Broadcast Pilots Association and a news pilot for 11 years in Indianapolis, said pilot awareness is vital while on the scene of a story because of the many distractions that could spell trouble. "You are watching the scene. You have to bring your attention inside to look at the monitors to see what the audience is seeing so you can converse. But youre also having to direct your attention to the other aircraft flying around you. You have to have your head on a swivel in those kinds of situations." Jonathan Rhys Meyers enters rehab || Hello Im Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is now in rehab. His rep tells People magazine he recently entered an alcohol treatment facility. She says he needed a break from his busy filming schedule to recover. 29 year old Meyers stars in Showtimes drama "The Tudors" and has also co-starred with Scarlett Johansson in the film "Match Point." Singer and songwriter Paul Simon is being honored for his musical contributions. Hes been chosen to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for popular song. The award honors the positive effect of ones music on world culture. Hell be recognized at a ceremony in Washington DC May 23. His former singer partner Art Garfunkel will be there as well as several other artists. Actress Kim Basinger says she didnt leak Baldwins angry voicemail to their daughter, Ireland. The actress also says her ex-husband is unstable and should address his irrational behavior if he ever wants a relationship with his child. In the voicemail thats posted on a public website, Baldwin calls 11 year old Ireland a "rude little pig." Baldwin and Basinger have been in a custody battle for years now. A recent auction of music memorabilia raised big bucks to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Last weekends "Icons of Music" auction made 2.5 million dollars to benefit an organization that replaces instruments lost in the storm. Among the biggest sellers was Jimmi Hendrixs guitar which grabbed more than 400,000 dollars. U2s guitar sold for nearly 250 thousand. Other items included John Lennons glasses and former president Bill Clintons saxaphone. Actress Milla Jovovich is expecting her first baby. She and fiance, director Paul Anderson will welcome the new addition in the fall. The couple met when he directed "Resident Evil"...which Jovovich starred in. Fan tries to attack Sandra Bullocks husband || Hello, Im Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Friday, April 27, 2007. Sandra Bullocks husband Jesse James is safe after a woman tried to kill him with her car. Police say James found the suspect lying on their driveway over the weekend in front of their southern California home. When he asked her to leave the woman got in her vehicle and tried to run him over several times. James was not hit or injured. The attacker has apparently stalked Bullock in the past. The suspect was arrested soon after and faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon. Last nights 2007 Billboard Latin Music Awards honored the biggest stars in the Latin Music industry. Singer Mariano Barba grabbed the award for top song of the year. Mexican pop singer Paulina Rubio opened the show and won two awards for her album "Ananda." Other winners included Columbian star Shakira and rapper Wycelf Jean. They took best duet for their hit "Hips Dont Lie." Sources tell People magazine the on again off again romance ended Sunday night. The two have been together for about a year but its been a rocky relationship. They split just last month but got back together shortly after. A source close to Mayer says the couple realized their differences and decided to part ways. Singer and now music producer Justin Timberlake has signed his first artist to his new label. Timberlakes Tennman Records signed Dutch singer Esmee Denters. The 18 year-old singer was discovered after posting covers of several popular songs on the popular website You Tube. People magazine reports the young singer will join Timberlake on tour this summer. Shell also reportedly come out with an original album this year. Photos of the car crash that killed Princess Diana will be broadcast tonight in a British documentary. Britains Channel 4 says itll air the show "Diana: The Witness in the Tunnel" despite opposition from Dianas sons, Princes William and Harry. The Princes secretary wrote to the channel, asking them to remove the photos that show the destroyed vehicle and Diana receiving medical treatment. They say broadcasting the photos is disrespectful. Channel 4 says they will air the program because it appeals to public interest. Celebrity couple Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson are reportedly calling it quits. One source tells People magazine the two split about a week ago. The reason for the breakup wasnt disclosed but the source says they remain good friends. The couple starred in the film " "You, Me and Dupree" and apparently started dating last fall. Actor Tom Sizemore has surrendered to authorities for allegedly violating probation. He turned himself in at a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday and was reportedly taken into custody immediately. The actor was arrested last month for allegedly using methamphetamines.
